IX MOSTRA DELL’OLIO DI OLIVA – VALDOTTAVO 24 E 25 MARZO 2012
Valdottavo and its "Associazione Valle dell'Olio" will be expecting us on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 of March for the IX Mostra Mercato dell'Olio d'Oliva.
The program opens with the inauguration of a new oil mill and a conference about oil production. But the two-day Festival is also a great event: a container of gastronomy, a market of olive oil, typical and handicraft products, tastings, tours, musical performances, photo exhibitions, competitions of skill, helicopter flights. For the young people it will take place the rock concert of "Trauma Cranico" and for the less young ones there is the photographic exhibition "I nostri ricordi". As tradition, the best Olive oil of the Valley will be rewarded.

L’omaggio a Santa Zita nei “Segni” pittorici di Jacopo Da San Martino
From February 25 to March 11, at Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca in Piazza S. Martino, it will be possible to visit the exposition of the young artist of Lucca Jacopo Da San Martino.
It is an occasion to know a young artist who is reaching a place of relief on the national scene: student at Liceo Artistico of Lucca and at Accademia di Belle Arti of Carrara, he has already participated at Padiglione Accademie di Belle Arti of 54a Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte della Biennale in Venice.
With this exhibition Da San Martino introduces 23 works in which sketches become a definitive work, but also a new and original approach to the complex theme of the sacred. All the works of this exhibition want to be a homage to the figure of Santa Zita, whose rests are preserved in the basilica of St. Frediano, and to her miracles, which are the "signs" through which the sacred manifests itself in the world. In this context the artistic practice becomes contemplation and search and leads toward the sacred in a sincere and pure way.

CARNEVALE DI VIAREGGIO, FROM 4/02 TO 3/03
Carnevale di Viareggio is the most important and spectacular carnival in Tuscany and one of the most famous in Europe. On the sea avenues of the city parade the allegorical floats realized with papier maché and several masked groups. Since the 1970s, the dominant theme of the allegories has been the political satire, as well as fantastic themes and frivolous themes. Symbol of the Carnival of Viareggio is the characteristic mask "Burlamacco", conceived in 1931 by Uberto Sonetti.
The floats' parade is not the only attraction of that carnival: during the evening there are parties on the roads of the neighborhoods, with people in mask and music up to late night. There are also numerous "veglioni" organized in the clubs and pubs of the city and other different cultural and recreational events.
The inauguration is on February 4th, while the parades are on February 5th 12th, 19th, 21st, 26th and on March 3rd

"IMMAGINARIO" DI PIER LUIGI PUCCINI - DAL 27/01 AL 12/02/2012
Pier Luigi Puccini, with his exhibition "Immaginario" inaugurates the calendar 2012 of the shows offered to the city by Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca, in the expositive rooms of Piazza San Martino. In 30 works of great format, oil and temper paintings on cloth or table, it will be possible to admire his particular narrative vein from the depth symbolic meaning, which wants to underline the most important ethical and social problems. From the fall of the Berlin wall to a nature exasperated that rebels to the man: it is an exposure of great impact, that wants to document the path of an interesting artist, with a great expressive liberty of contents.

LUCCA E LE MURA: ITINERARI DEL RISORGIMENTO 17/12/2011 - 17/03/2012
The show wants to analyse, through the study of some city monuments, the different phases of the Italian Risorgimento putting also in evidence the different way in which the inhabitants of Lucca perceived and interpreted the unitary message in the period between 1861 and the end of the Nineteenth century. It is an itinerary that brings us to the local environment and it develops between 1863 (with the erection of the statue of Francesco Burlamacchi) and 1897 (with the inauguration of Monumento ai Caduti in Piazza XX Settembre). While in Italy the most important issue was unification, Lucca also tried to preserve the cultural roots of the community, valorizing and acquiring all the elements of its identity: Lucca repurchased, in fact, its Mura, intangible icon for the whole community, restored today in modern key the façade of the church of St. Michael, recomposed the funeral monument of Ilaria del Carreto and revised the history of the unification of Italy creating a sort of didactic path through the town streets and monuments to destine to the future generations.
The show is distributed in different places: Casermetta del Baluardo San Colombano, Archivio Storico Comunale, the Archivio di Stato, Biblioteca Nazionale and Museo Nazionale di Palazzo mansi

CHAGALL'S SPIRITUAL UNIVERSE AT CHIESA DI SAN CRISTOFORO IN LUCCA
From January 7, to March 18, in the suggestive Church of S.Cristoforo, Lucca will host "Chagall's Spiritual Universe": precious oil and mixed techniques paintings by the Russian artist, realized from 1959 to 1982. The show is composed by works of small size that investigate the internal world of the artist, fed of the memoirs of the infancy spent in Vitebsk. Among the works in exposure: Profil du peintre, Le trapéziste and Le Roi David, interesting interpretation of the religious theme. The exihibition has been organized by Lalla's Join of Stefania Trolli in collaboration with Luciano Caprile and with the SEM-Art Gallery of Monaco.
The show, promoted and organized by the Association St. Cristoforo, has the patronage of Diocesi, Comune and Provincia of Lucca.

"THE SILK ROAD" AT MUST FROM 12/11/2011 TO 31/01/2012
Among the celebrations for the Chinese Cultural Year in Italy, the great history of the itineraries described by Mark Polo is told by the show "The Silk Road", promoted by the Comune di Lucca in collaboration with the Centro Studi Martino Martini and the China National Silk Museum of Hangzhou.
The "Silk Road" is recognized by the historians as fundamental element for the evolution of the human civilization, and in the Medieval Lucca has been the European capital of it. With this show Lucca culturally ties itself to the city of Hangzhou, co-realizer of the event and principal center of silky production in China in the past and in the present and starting from this year belongs to the List of the Historical Patrimony of the Humanity, as Lucca currently runs to become Historical Patrimony of the Humanity for the Unesco as one of the western terminals of the Silk Road.
The show articulates in three sections: the first one, devoted to Lucca and its role of international capital of the silky manufacture, with objects coming from public and private collections of Lucca; the second, devoted to the production and the commerce of the silk among China, central Asia and Mediterranean, with objects coming from the collections of the National Museum of the Silk of Hangzhou and from other Italian public and private institutions; the third one, devoted to the techniques of manufacture typical of the Islamic and Byzantine world and to their diffusion in Europe, with objects coming from private Italian collections.

CHRISTMAS IN LUCCA
Among the novelties of Christmas 2011 in Lucca there are the light projections on churches and monuments: Teatro del Giglio (in Piazza del Giglio), Torre Guinigi and Torre delle Ore will be wound by soft lights that reproduce the stylization of the plots of the medioeval silk of Lucca. Other city monuments will be interested by the projectio: Porta dei Borghi and Porta S. Gervasio, Chiesa di Santa Maria Foris Portam; Chiesa di San Pietro Somaldi. Other projections will also interest Porta Elisa, San Donato and Santa Maria.
Also this year, among the principal attractions of Piazza Napoleone, where you can find also the Christmas market, there will be the skating rink.
In Piazza San Michele, moreover, has been realized a manger of 300 meters, settled in a wood of olive trees and ancient vines.
It has been created, besides, a new Christmas path, beginning from Piazza Guidiccioni, that will connect, through street S. Andrew, the Tower Guinigi accompanying us up to the Museum of the city Lucca Must. In Piazza Guidiccione, where the house of Babbo Natale is prepared, a true spellbound forest is blunt with enormous animals realized by Maestro Antonio Possenti. Finally, As tradition, it will be possible to greet the new year with an event open to everybody and free, organized by the town administration in collaboration with the association Don Barons Onlus. The appointment with the party is at 22:00 of December 31 on the square of Baluardo S. Maria, in front of Caffè delle Mura.

RITMI VISIVI. LUIGI VERONESI NELL'ASTRATTISMO EUROPEO
From October 9, 2011, to January 8, 2012 Fondazione Ragghianti in Lucca dedicates a wide retrospective exhibition to Luigi Veronesi: painter, photographer, cinematographic author, theorist, among the main protagonists of the Italian abstraction. International figure, Veronesi will be compared with the works of authors who affected his education and the definition of his language, such as Kandinskij, Klee, Moholy-Nagy, El Lissitskij, Albers, Vantongerloo and other exponents of Italian and international art of that time. The aim of the exhibition is pointing out the opening of interests and dynamism of Veronesi's art, specifically underlining two areas of his wide production: the abstract cinema and the "chromatic displays of music." The entrance is free.

DESCO 2011 AT REAL COLLEGIO FROM NOVEMBER 19
From November 19, for four week-ends till December 11, the dishes and products of Lucca are the protagonists of Desco 2011. Visiting the several stands you can taste the typical products of Lucca and find interesting gifts. Every week there will be a "special guest": Garfagnana Farro during the first one, the chestnut and its by-products during the second, then Aquileia soup and finally Valdottavo oil. Do not forget to visit the collective table of La Strada del Vino e dell'Olio di Lucca Montecarlo e Versilia in the central hall of the first floor and taste the wine and oil of Tenuta Maria Teresa!!

LUCCA PHOTO FEST - VII EDITION FROM 19/11 TO 11/12/2011
Lucca Photo Fest, international festival of photography, will take place at Villa Bottini, Palazzo Guinigi, Palazzo Ducale, Chiesa di S. Cristoforo, Chiesa dei Servi and Real Collegio, where every year the organizers introduce shows and video installations of the most important photographers and artists of the world. The theme of this edition will be: "Sguardi d'Oriente". LPF proposes about seventy events every year, among them: photographic and technical workshops, debates and projections, lectures of great authors. "Notte degli Award" is an important event of international prestige, when important prizes will be conferred to the greatest artists of this art: the LPF Award 2011, the Nikon Prize for the Italian photo, the prize for Fotogiornalismo 2011 and the prizes linked to the three contests announced by the festival.

LUCCA COMICS AND GAMES 2011
Lucca Comics and Games is back! The international festival of comics and intelligent games, that was visited by over 135 thousand people in 2010, will take place from October 28 to November 1. The 2011 edition, that will last five days instead of four, will be devoted to Emilio Salgari, the greatest Italian writer of adventurous novels, who died in 1911. The whole festival, articulated in events, meetings and contests will be inspired by the work of Salgari, revisited in very sector: from the role-playing games to the video games of Lucca Games, from the contest for llustrators of Lucca Junior up to the theatrical shows and performances on the stage of Music & Comics. Lucca Comics and games affirms, moreover, its international vocation thanks to the presence of Herbie Brennan, one of the most important protagonists of the world fantasy and an undisputed teacher of the world comic strips as Jiro Taniguchi, among other important Italian and international guests.

From October 20 to 22 Real Collegio and Teatro San Girolamo host Lu.Be.C Lucca Beni Culturali: the international meeting devoted to the development and knowledge of the culture-technologies-tourism sector. Organizers alternate lectures, debates, seminars, presentations and previews to propose and activate, through nalysis and comparisons, strategies of intervention and collaboration. THIS YEAR IN LUCCA THE WALLED TOWNS FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE'S ANNUAL MEETING!
This year Comune di Lucca and Opera delle Mura have the opportunity to organize the annual meeting of the Walled Towns Friendship Circle, an international association for the sustainable development of walled towns. This association was founded in Wales in 1989 and, at the moment, it is composed by 140 members: walled towns in Europe and in the rest of the world. The meeting will take place at Villa La Principessa in Massa Macinaia, near Lucca, October 6 to 9; a public conference is also planned on October 7.

Carte rivelatrici. I tesori nascosti della Collezione Peggy Guggenheim
From 18/09/2011 to 15/01/2012 Lu.C.C.A., Lucca Center of Contemporary Arts, host the exhibition "Carte rivelatrici. I tesori nascosti della Collezione Peggy Guggenheim". Drawing on the holdings of Peggy Guggenheim Collection, well known patron and collector, this exhibition brings to light a collection of works on paper by some of the greatest artists of the twentieth century: among them Alechinsky, Arp, Calder, De Kooning, Ernst, Fontana, Hundertwasser, Kandinsky, Kupka, Man Ray, Masson, Matta, Mondrian, Moore, Picasso, Richter, Rivera, Sironi, Tancredi, Tanguy, Tobey e Vedova. Some were shown at 1948 Venice Biennale, others have been exhibited only rarely and other have never been exhibited prior to this exhibition at Lu.C.C.A.

FESTA DI SANTA CROCE IN LUCCA - 13 AND 14 SEPTEMBER 2011
The "Festa dell'Esaltazione della Santa Croce" is the principal event of the archdiocese of Lucca. On the evening of September 13 The Procession of the Volto Santo will take place through the streets of the historical centre, after that the execution of the traditional "Mottettone" in the Cathedral of S. Martino and the pyrotechnic show at about 11:00 pm. On September 14, at 10:30 am, the solemn mass of the Exaltation of the Cross will be celebrated in the Cathedral of S. Martino.

MURABILIA MURAINFIORE 2011
The eleventh edition of Murabilia Murainfiore, organized by Opera delle Mura, will take place on September 2-3-4 and it will be located on four "baluardi": S. Regolo, S. Colombano, La Libertà e S. Salvatore. As usual, also this year the main botanical themes are three: plant with gilded leaves, flowers or fruits, graminacees and plumeries.

WANDERING ABOUT IN THE HISTORY... INSIDE THE MURA OF LUCCA
From June 25th to September 30th it will be possible to visit the underground S. Colombano, a recently restored part of the monumental Mura of Lucca. Inside you will find an interesting show about the history and evolution of the Mura, from the construction to our days. The underground is open every day from 10:00 to 18:00, except Monday, the entry is free.
